The
Matterhorn. Love does not conquer all.
Although Zermatt
is literally surrounded by beautiful and tall mountains it is the
Matterhorn that brought the resort its incredible fame. This
beautiful mountain towers above and is, the focal point of Zermatt on the
Swiss side and Cervinia on the Italian side. It was first climbed by an
Englishman by the name of Whymper in 1865. Three members of his party of
seven were killed during the attempt.
