Zermatt the world famous resort in Switzerland has it all. The Matterhorn resort offers great skiing, enviable shopping, spectacular choices in accommodation and memorable wining and dining. Alas the apr?s ski can be memorable for all of the wrong reasons. (More)
Here’s a bit of friendly advice. Do not look for bargains in apr?s ski wining and dining in Zermatt. Stick to your own price, age and sophistication range. If you have a need to feel young and to mix, wine and dine with a much younger crowd then good luck to you. However you may end up like yours truly. That is, truly appalled. Oh, did I mention that I am old and gray?
I won’t mention names here as there was a time when I truly enjoyed this type of thing. That is fast and plentiful food, well-priced, free-flowing wine and beer and big, noisy crowds. At this stage of life that whole scene leaves me-no pun intended-cold.
I find the “in” joints are cutting corners on service and substance and cashing in on those that want to see and be seen. Now I have to tell you that this is all probably a sign of my advancing years. What was good for me in ’78 Zermatt is not good in ’08 Zermatt.
I like to think of it as yours truly finally getting a touch of sophistication. Nowadays one prefers the much more laid back approach of the better hotels, restaurants and bars. A better class of service, softer surrounds and, to be amongst folks of means is really where one likes to, er, hang. I mean these folk’s wealth status is probably way above mine by the way, but hey….mingling is almost the real thing isn’t it?
Whoops this outs me, I have just changed my hangouts and preferable drinking partners. I guess it is alright for folks to mix and mingle with the younger set if they so desire. I guess if they can stand the heat why should they get out of the kitchen? Just don’t wake me with your noise. Anyway the moral of this story is; as far as after ski or nighttime action is concerned, Zermatt really does have it all.
